Backstage Pass: On Hrithik’s trail...

Trailer is going BANG BANG

Cutting the trailer of a Hrithik Roshan starrer isn't the easiest of tasks as every shot in the teaser needs his nod. The scenario wasn't any different for his latest outing Bang Bang, co-starring Katrina Kaif. And to ensure that there are no creative differences between the superstar, director, cast and crew, a team headed by brothers Binny and Ravi Padda who cut the promo, got involved in the project from the scripting stage.

"We were shown the final draft of the script which gave us absolute clarity on the tonality and the scale of the film. In the first teaser which has received over 10 million hits online, the idea was to showcase the expanse of the film while retaining the viewers curiosity," says Binny, whose team of 20 conceptualised, supervised and executed the teaser.

They worked on five versions of differing lengths, some running over two minutes, and presented all of them to director Siddharth Anand. Then the marketing team and cast saw them. Everybody gave their inputs which they fine-tuned to create one video which met with everyone's consent.

Binny's team has previously worked on films as varied as Lagaan, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and more recently, 2 States. "My brief this time was to make Bang Bang look like a big Hollywood summer blockbuster which is high on action. The big challenge was that when we were cutting the first trailer, filming was still going on in Prague, so we had excellent but limited footage to work with," explains Binny.

Asked why the teaser begins with the cliched countdown, he reveals that it is part of an extended, crucial sequence.

Another highlight that comes with an adrenaline rush is when out of nowhere, a F1 car zooms into the middle of a busy street. "We had planned to use that shot in a later promo but Hrithik insisted, confident that it would have the viewer's pulse racing. The result is stunning," Binny exults.

He adds that Hrithik, like Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan, is involved with every aspect of the film. "His commitment is amazing and his judgement on what shots to retain and what to save for later is impeccable," he raves.

There's been some criticism about Katrina being sidelined in the first teaser but Binny insists that everybody was focussed on the "greater good." So Kat didn't feel left out? "Well, there's a possibility that she felt overshadowed by Hrithik's action sequences," he admits, and quickly adds,"But she knew that this is only a teaser. She features prominently in the campaign that's about to kickoff."

                          Hail King Khan!

 Hail king khan...!!!

Shah Rukh Khan may well have laid claim to the adage `Bollywood ka Badhsah' or `King Khan' all these years, but now it seems Salman Khan is intent on taking away at least one of the tags.

Mirror was the first to report that Salman will be seen in a double role in Sooraj Barjatya's next, Prem Ratan Dhan Pao. Now, we can report that one of his two roles is that of a king with a heart of gold who answers to the call of Ratan and rules over a fantasy kingdom. He has an identical twin, Prem, who's a "common man" and miles removed from his world.

A source close to the production revealed, "Sooraj has written the character of Ratan with Salman in mind. He's the ideal raja who is loved and worshipped by his subjects. Sonam Kapoor plays the role of a princess."

The unit is currently shooting at ND Studio in Karjat where an elaborate set has been erected. "Salman has given a lot of inputs for both the characters, Prem and Ratan, which are positive roles," adds the source.

However, even though in Sooraj's world everyone is happy and good, in this film there's a character with strong negative shades, which will be enacted by Neil Nitin Mukesh."Neil is playing a vengeful prince who is King Salman's step-brother," informs the source.

The film also features Armaan Kohli, Swara Bhaskar and Deepak Dobriyal in pivotal roles.

Ink club

 INk club

When Saif Ali Khan got 'Kareena' inked on his wrist three months into his relationship with the actress, everyone assumed the tattoo was false and would fade away in six months. It's still there, six years later, and the couple are now happily married.

Deepika Padukone has split with Ranbir Kapoor but still wears RK on her neck and a delicate chain around one ankle. We're not sure if it binds her to her current beau Ranveer Singh.

Sonakshi Sinha's starry dreams are reflected in the star on her neck while Mallaika Arora Khan has an angel on her hip. Sushmita Sen's body is a work of art while Ajay 'Singham' Devgn proudly sports a Devi on his chest.

Are these just art for art's sake?

Or do they carry a more symbolic meaning? We got some of Bollywood's beautiful belles to decode the significance of their etchings for us.

Dance with me: Tapsee Pannu

Tapsee Pannu has always been interested in body art but fearing parental opposition waited till she had finished school. She then got a dancing girl tattooed on her right ankle which reflects her free spirit.

The Chashme Baddoor actress added a second, right above her hip-bone. "It's my name which is unique and has a nice ring to it," she smiles, adding that none of the two are instantly visible. "If I see them every day, I will get bored," she reasons.

Warding off evil: Jacqueline Fernandez

The Sri Lankan beauty queen got herself inked during her first visit to India in 2008. Jaqueline Fernandez sports an Eye of Ra, a protective symbol, on her nape. "It was a spontaneous decision which I took when vacationing with my friends in Bangalore. They suggested the eye would help me ward off evil and it has worked so far!" she laughs.

Looking for inspiration: Ileana D'cruz

When she was holidaying in Melbourne with a friend, Ileana D'Cruz got the Latin word 'Inspirare' inked on her wrist. "It's taken on a spiritual meaning and has made me the actor that I am today. Why be jealous or insecure about anybody, when we can inspire everybody and grow together," she muses.

It's all in the name: Shruti Haasan

Kamal Haasan's daughter has five tattoos, the first being a Sanskrit shlok on her back. "I was 19 and studying in Los Angeles when I got it done. It's something I grew up listening to," Shruti explains. Her father wasn't pleased but mum Sarika was cool. Her second tattoo on her back is Shruti in Tamil. The rest include a musical note on the back of her ear, the word 'Rise' on her ankle and a rose on her wrist. "Rise urges me to rise whenever I fall while the clef represents the musician in me." And roses ? "Because they are beautiful!" she says.

Mum's the word, and so is dad! Richa Chadda

The Gangs of Wasseypur actress has the names of her parents inked on her right wrist. "I live alone in Mumbai and their names reassure me that they are around," says Richa Chadda. Asked if she ever thought of getting a boyfriend's name inked, she retorts, "Boyfriends come and go, but your parents will always stay with you."

For the kids: Raveena Tandon

The actress has the names of her two children tattooed on her back. "It's the kundli names of my kids - Vishaka and Vardhan - both mean Shiva. But since my husband Anil was insistent that we begin their name with an 'R', their names are -Rasha Vishaka and Ranbir Vardhan", Raveena says.

Ranbir steals time to wrap up delayed time

After several delays and date clashes, Roy, Ranbir Kapoor's film with Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, is finally back on track. Initially, Jacqueline's commitment to Kick had threatened her presence in the film and then had RK got busy with Jagga Jasoos and Tamasha.

Just when rumours about the film getting indefinitely delayed had started making the rounds, Mirror has learnt that the actor has allotted 20 days to the film's director Vikram Singh, starting from August 21.

Revealed a source, "They will be leaving for Malaysia for a 20-day schedule where a majority of the portions with Ranbir will be shot. He has squeezed time between the schedules of Jagga Jasoos and Tamasha, which might now be moved to December or early next year."

Elaborating on RK's character in the film, the source added, "He plays a skilled art-thief , it's an intriguing character, unlike anything he's attempted so far.

Confirming the same, Vikram told Mirror, "Yes, we've got RK's combination dates in the last two weeks of August. A major chunk of the film will be completed in that schedule as we need to be ready for a February release."

Aamir Khan: There's a story in every image of PK

Aamir Khan: There's a story in every image of PK

"There is a story in each and every image that we reveal. We will have a poster campaign and we will reveal eight to 10 posters till the time the film releases," Aamir, who plays the lead role in the film, told reporters at the launch here.

If the first one had Aamir going nude, the second poster features him in a red angrakha teamed up with white pyjama and a trumpet in his hand.

"The more posters we will reveal, the more people will get confused," Aamir said.

The first poster set tongues wagging and social networking sites were inundated with jokes targeting Aamir, but the 49-year-old takes the barbs and criticisms in his stride and added that movie buffs will understand the logic behind it only after watching the film.

"Some people have loved it and some people didn't like it, but you all will understand once you will see the film. I am happy with the response.

"There were some great jokes, and different stuffs on Facebook and Internet. I enjoyed it," he said.

"We were silent when our first poster came out, so we thought of clearing all your doubts and answering all your questions this time," he added.

Being prepared for a December release, director Rajkumar Hirani's "PK" also stars Anushka Sharma among others.
